Movie Trailer: Kick-Ass

Here’s a teaser trailer for the film adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass comic.

I have to admit, I’ve never been a fan of Millar’s output, which I always considered tried that little bit too hard to be edgy, while other (IMHO, better) writers managed it with a bit of subtlety and grace. I hated the Wanted comic and I’ve heard the film version, while vastly different to the source material, wasn’t worth the time of day either.

I have to admit though, this film (directed by Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake/Stardust fame) looks kinda cool.

The story centres around a young, bored teenage boy named Dave Lizewski (played by relative newcomer Aaron Johnson), who decides one day that he’ll fight back against the injustices of the world by donning a costume and assuming the mantle of the crime-fighting, though super power-free ‘Kick-Ass’. As you’d expect from Millar, not all goes according to plan.

The film also stars Nicolas Cage as fellow vigilante, ‘Big Daddy’, as well as Superbad‘s Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Kick-Ass is due for release in the second quarter of 2010.

Movie Trailer: Clash Of The Titans

Here’s a brand new trailer for the Clash Of The Titans remake, directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk) and featuring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and fast-rising star Sam Worthington.

I don’t know about you, but having watched the trailer I am very, very excited about seeing this film.

Hey, I loved the original too, but I think this might just be a fitting tribute to an all-time classic, something that is very rare in today’s film industry.

Video Spotlight: Ticklish Slow loris

This may actually be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen:

“Yes, yes… your tickling pleases slow loris. You may continue.”

Video Spotlight: Drunk Boston woman narrowly avoids Darwin Award

Here we have a perfect example of why the irresponsible idiots of this world need to collectively sit up and thank whoever it is they give thanks to, that the technology exists to keep their dumb asses alive, despite their own apparent determination for the opposite to occur.

Fellow commuters ended up putting their own lives at risk to wave down the oncoming subway train, causing the driver to slam the emergency brake and stop just in time, leaving the woman unharmed, albeit underneath the front carriage of the train.

The video appears to show the woman flailing around and nearly touching the live rail. I have to wonder who’d have copped the blame if this reckless moron had succeeded in doing herself in.

Video Spotlight: Office Freakout

Ever had one of those days? You know the ones. There you are, working away at your desk, when all of a sudden your co-worker goes ballistic and throws his monitor at your head.

Yeah, we’ve all been there.

(Bonus wtf @ the guy who’s just stood there diligently filming the whole thing on his mobile phone)

Movie Trailer: Sherlock Holmes

Here’s a new trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. There’s a little bit of new footage, edited to be heavier on action and with (slightly) less reliance on corny one-liners.

After watching it, I have to say the jury’s still out on whether it’ll be any good.

Will I go to see it either way? Most probably.

Music Spotlight: Three Trapped Tigers

Coming across like the tripped-out, psychadelic offspring of Aphex Twin and Minus The Bear, Three Trapped Tigers are a UK trio who produce dreamlike, ambient delights which veer from chaotic to uplifting to soothing, and occasionally all three at the same time.

Movie Trailer: Despicable Me

Despicable Me is a forthcoming animated feature from the executive producer of Ice Age, starring Steve Carrell as Gru, the world’s #2 supervillain, and following his disaster-fraught scheme to steal the moon.

Also featuring the voices of Will Arnett, Julie Andrews and, er, Russell Brand, Despicable Me looks like enjoyable, slapstick fun.

The film is due out mid-2010.

Video Spotlight: Cat in zero-G

Today’s WTF moment comes courtesy of these floating cat-haters who, during a zero-gravity experiment, decided to find out how a cat would react to being flung around in a near weightlessness environment.

Pretty much the same as anyone else who wasn’t expecting it and had no clue what was going on, I’d wager.

Music Spotlight: Pomplamoose

Pomplamoose, the duo comprised of multi-instrumentalist Jack Conte and his girlfriend Nataly Dawn, formed in 2008 and have played only a single live show to date.

Nonetheless, with their steady stream of stop-motion animated videos on Youtube, the band showcase their affectionate, indie-folk take on classics from such luminaries as Edith Piaf, Simon & Garfunkel, and Nat King Cole.
